Weekend Wind-Down : Super Bowl Edition.
Beyond the whole “footbal viewingl” aspect of your Super Bowl party, there’s no more important part of this upcoming weekend than beer. And unfortunately, bringing your favorite bottle of Syrah won’t really cut it when everyone’s dressed in jerseys and jeans. Many women don’t like beer. And that’s very discerning of us: mass produced and widely available American beer just isn’t that good.
For this year’s Super Bowl party, dare to step out of the prison of Bud, Miller, and Coors and try out some craft brews. You’ll impress your taste buds and your entire party.
Indian Pale Ale (IPA): Light and golden colored beer with higher alcohol content than most. Brewed with plenty of hops that create a noticeable bitterness.
Check out: 60 Minute IPA, Dogfish Head Brewing Company, Milton, DE
Pale Ale: A watered-down IPA that’s a little cheaper. Fewer hops mean less bitterness, too.
Check out: Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Sierra Nevada, Chico, CA
Pilsner: Want a more flavorful American beer? Try a craft-brewed pilsner, a traditional American beer that’s light and crisp.
Check out: Mama’s Little Yella Pils, Oskar Blues, Longmont, CO
Belgian White: A wheat beer typically flavored with spices and fruits, such as coriander and orange peel. Made popular by Blue Moon, these beers are refreshing and tasty.
Check out: Allagash White, Allagash Brewing Company, Portland ME
Stout: People think dark beers are heavier because of their color. However, they’re dark because the malt is roasted longer. Often stouts’ rich and roasted flavors are enhanced with coffee, chocolate, and oatmeal. YUM!
Check out: Rouge Double Chocolate Stout, Newport, OR
