Management Tip Monday: Paying Homage to Mentors.
National Mentoring Month is coming to a close, but that doesn’t mean you should curb your mentoring efforts.
Mentors play a major role in helping novice employees grow and find their way in the workplace. Earlier this month, President Barack Obama recognized the benefits of mentors by dubbing January National Mentoring Month, saying, “Every day, mentors help young Americans face the challenges of growing into adulthood. By setting a positive example and sharing their time, knowledge and experience, mentors play an essential role in preparing our Nation’s youth for a bright future.”
Not everyone has a mentor, but those who do seem to find the help useful. A recent study by Marie Claire foundthat 66 percent of women believe that networking events and mentors are necessary in furthering one’s career. Some apprentices become so attached to mentors that they leave the company when a mentor goes.
Today and throughout the year, we hope you pay an homage to those who root for your success at work and beyond. Say thanks to your mentors or even look into becoming one yourself. You can learn more about what it takes to be a mentor and even become a mentor if you please.
